STEPS TO SOLVING THE LEARNING PUZZLE

Initial Session:

The first step in solving the learning puzzle is a one hour or more exchange to establish background information, answer questions about the program and determine the steps needed for change.

Comprehensive Assessment Process:

Depending on the child's age and the problems they are experiencing, a 3 to 5 hour in-depth assessment is conducted. This core assessment usually includes: the Brain Dominance Profile, a Learning Style Analysis, and the Structures of Intellect (SOI) assessment to identify 26 different cognitive skills. We also recommend a computerized Bioenergetic Sensitivity Testing for nutritional deficiencies and food/chemical sensitivities, which can also be an important piece of the learning puzzle.

Interpretation of Assessment & Creation of an Action Plan

When the assessment process is complete, an appointment with the parent/caregiver and the child/teen is set up to summarize and clarify the results. Implications for learning performance are discussed and plans for implementing changes are introduced.

Individual or Group Learning Sessions

Specialized 1 hour learning sessions are designed which may include: Brain GymŪ movements to alleviate stress and switch on the brain, balance board exercises to stimulate neural pathway development, sensory motor integration for better brain/body communication and cognitive activities to enhance thinking skills. These fun, brain training sessions can be scheduled either once or twice a week for 3 month intervals and are greatly enhanced when combined with regular homeplay.

Sensory Motor Integration

Sensory motor integration activities are part of every brain training hour at ICOL. They are designed by physio-therapists to provide the child with sensory information which helps (1) organize the central nervous system, (2) to assist the child in inhibiting and/or modulating sensory information, and (3) to assist the child in processing a more organized response to sensory stimuli. The best thing about these activities is that they are fun.
